Accident closes IL Route 84At 3:16 pm on June 4th, 2008 the Carroll County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene of a two vehicle accident involving a Savanna City Ambulance and a passenger vehicle. The Savanna City Ambulance was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 84 on an emergency call, transporting a patient to the Clinton Iowa hospital when it collided head-on with a northbound passenger vehicle. After the impact, the southbound ambulance skidded across the nearby railroad crossing, causing the closure of Illinois Route 84 and the Burlington Northern Railroad crossing for several hours. The Savanna ambulance crew and their patient were transported by ambulance to Mercy North hospital in Clinton Iowa. The driver of the northbound passenger vehicle was transported to Freeport Memorial hospital. Assisting at the scene were the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Savanna Fire and Ambulance, Savanna Police Department, Thomson Ambulance, Mount Carroll Ambulance, the Illinois Department of Transportation, Jo Carroll Electric, and the Burlington Northern Railroad. The accident is under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
