The Women's Committee recently enjoyed a trip to Washington IA to view barn quilts. It turned out to be a much more interesting trip than anticipated.
Washington County currently has two loops of barn quilts and are working on their third. We did what they call the Amish loop. The majority of the
quilts had black backgrounds. After taking the tour, we had 3 hours to wander around the town of Washington IA and their shops. The ladies are looking into
other bus trips that we can do, so if you have any you would like to take, send me your suggestions.
Summer is just about here and it feels like it outside. Don't forget we have discounted prices on Great America, Six Flags, Adventureland, and
Silver Dollar City tickets.
I have gotten word that the orchard we get our Southern Illinois peaches from survived the storms! So assuming mother nature doesn't mess with
the crop, we will be having peaches available again this summer. Keep your eyes and ears open for order information.
For the last few years we have made it here at the office without any fill in staff. Well we have decided that it is time again to find someone we can
use as back up in case Jessica and myself are both out of the office. In fact, we will be needing someone this fall. If you know of anyone or if you yourself
are looking for some temporary, seasonal fill in work, give me a call. I plan on having someone in mind for this position by the end of July.
Here is the final business profile in our series of Membership Value Program participants. dabluz boutique in Mount Carroll offers Carroll County
Farm Bureau members a 20% discount on undecorated denim. Laura Miller founded her business in 2006. Her daughter and herself love to make "stuff".
They began with the farmer's market and then home parties in Iowa. Over a bonfire during a cross country cycling trip in 2005 they decided to move to
Mount Carroll.
Laura says everything is unique about their business. They hand make a lot of their stuff as was as about 40 others who sell items there. They have
a little bit of everything, something for everyone, and something NEW every day. They sell handmade and vintage jewelry, handmade purses,
recycled greeting cards, soy candles, altered art, scrapbook items, beads, denim, candy bouquets, books, and more. It is just Laura and a friend who works at
dabluz. Laura is involved in the Mt. Carroll Chamber and also donates to charities, school functions, and scout groups.
Laura's favorite part of being in a small town is everyone is a neighbor and the small town community if fabulous. The hard part she feels, as well
as most of our other businesses is the number of customers. We thank Laura for providing our members with a discount.
Don't forget to utilize our Membership Value Program. There is a full list of discounts on our website at www.carrollcfb.org or contact our office for
a wallet size value card.
