Molly Neebel, 13, daughter of Mike Neebel of Stockton and Katrina Hoist of Savanna, and granddaughter of Myrna Neebel Handel of Mount Carroll, has been nominated to compete in the National American Miss Pageant in the Jr. Teen category.
She attended interviews at Cliffbreakers Hotel in Rockford and was chosen as a state finalist in St. Charles IL at the Miss Illinois pageant on September 1-3, Labor Day weekend. It is not a beauty contest but a personality competition. The mission of the pageant is to encourage America’s future leaders and equip them with valuable life skills by empowering each contestant, enabling them to reach their full potential in life.
Pageantry is used to teach real life skills. There is no swimsuit or make-up contest. She will receive intensive training and then compete for her share of cash, prizes, and scholarships while learning self-confidence and poise.
Molly attended Stockton Elementary School from Kindergarten through the beginning of 7th grade and moved to West Carroll Middle School in November of 2011 and completed 7th grade. Honors she has received through the years were the Young Authors award in Kindergarten, District Spelling Bee winner in 2011 and 3rd place in 2012, band and choral awards including attending the IMEA concert for chorus, Presidential recognition in 2011, and high honors scholastically in 2012. Molly enjoyed participating in pep and marching band. She played on the volleyball team for Stockton. She attends church whenever she can, and has a fantastic faith in God.
The pageant is operated by the contestant getting sponsors to donate to her future with their financial support. She must contact local businesses and professionals and friend and family for financial gifts. She also asks you to support her with your prayers. She must secure $490 in support for the sponsorship fees and another $400 for travel, lodging, and personal expenses.
She is very ambitious and hopes to return hours of community service for the sponsorship she receives. There are 4 area she will receive points in: 1) Formal Wear (Personality) (30% of score); 2) Individual Interview (30% of score); 3) Personal Introduction (30% of score); and 4) Community Involvement (10% of score). Also, she may choose to compete in optional competitions such as writing an essay, playing music, or showing a talent.
