‘Stories of Hope’ Highlights Relay for Life Carroll County

By Lynnette Forth For The Prairie Advocate News

MOUNT CARROLL, IL – The West Carroll Middle School athletic field in Mount Carroll will be the site of the 2012 Carroll County Relay for Life. The event will take place on Saturday, June 23rd. “Stories of Hope” is the theme for this year.

All cancer survivors are invited to celebrate life and the hope for a cure by joining the Relay for Life survivor dinner and victory lap. The victory lap symbolizes the courage survivors and their families display in their lives everyday.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event where teams walk around the track throughout the night in hope that cancer will one day be eliminated. The survivor dinner will be held on June 23rd at 3:00 p.m. at the Mount Carroll United Methodist Church. Cancer survivors are encouraged to participate in the victory lap taking place at 6:00 p.m. at the Middle School.

The Relay for Life committee has been working hard throughout the year to organize this year’s event. Currently, 17 teams have registered, and $2,900.00 in sponsorships has been collected. Throughout the evening, participants have the opportunity to be involved in many fun events, some of which include: Hero Lap, Princess Lap, Name That Tune Game, Pizza Party at midnight, Minute To Win It Games, Skip Lap, Hula Chain, 3 Little 3 Legged Pig Race Lap, Pajama Lap, Jump Rope Lap, and more.

A luminaria ceremony will be held at 9:00 p.m., and honors loved ones past and present that have been affected by cancer. Luminary bags may be purchased before and during the event. The closing prayer takes place at 4:00 a.m.

The public is invited to attend this moving event.
