MOUNT CARROLL—As if property owners needed to be reminded, the first installment of Carroll County property tax bills are due Friday, July 6.
Carroll County Treasurer Diane Power would like to remind all property owners that it is their responsibility to notify either her office or the assessor’s office of any change in the mailing of the tax bills.
“Many people include their tax payments with the monthly mortgage payment and as a result, the mailing address of the tax bill is that of the mortgage company,” Powers explained.
“Often property owners assume that when their mortgage is released, the mortgage company notifies us of the change in their mailing address. This usually doesn’t occur,” Powers added “It is the property owners responsibility to notify us of any change in the mailing address of their tax bill.”
Taxes may be paid in full in one payment or in two installments. Partial payments are not acceptable and will be returned. Each payment must be accompanied by the detachable portion of the tax bill.
All checks should be made payable to Carroll County Treasurer and payment is void if the check fails to clear. There will be a $20 service fee for all returned checks.
Illinois statues require a 1.5 percent per month penalty, effective on the first day following each due date. Additional cost may be incurred after the 2nd installment due date. All payments made after the due dates must include penalty.
You should also write your property number on the front of the check.
Carroll County Taxpayers can make payment by mail, in person or on-line.
You can mail your tax bills payment to Carroll County Treasurer, PO Box 198, Mount Carroll IL 61053-0198. Please enclose stub with payment and do not send post-dated checks. Postmark is acceptable.
You can also pay in person at the treasurer’s office during regular business hours or at any Carroll County bank, including Milledgeville Credit Union and Blackhawk Area Credit Union.
