Fundraiser Benefits White Oaks Therapeutic Riding Center

By LYNNETTE FORTH | For The Prairie Advocate News

A fundraiser will be held on June 30th and July 1st to benefit White Oaks Therapeutic Riding Center located at 501 6th Avenue in Lyndon Illinois. The Equestrian Center offers therapeutic horseback riding and animal-assisted activities for people ages four to adult with physical and mental disabilities. Basic instruction is given in grooming, tacking, horsemanship, riding, and driving skills. Classes include mounted exercise, reinforcement of learning objectives, games, trail riding, and fun.

There are many benefits of equestrian assisted activities including: physical, social, cognitive, and emotional. These benefits are available to individuals with just about any disability, impairment, or need.

White Oaks is a not for profit tax exempt organization, established in 1995 for the purpose of providing recreational, educational, therapeutic, and social opportunities for persons with disabilities. WHOA programs improve physical capabilities and functional skills as well as furnish students the opportunity of added leisure time, physical activity, and social interaction. Therapeutic riding is made possible through the assistance of dedicated, trained, volunteers who help with horses and riders, stable maintenance, special events and fundraising.
