The survey taken for the Shannon area is complete and the results have been tallied. "Community Matters wants to thank everyone for the
great responses and suggestions that were received," said CM member Lori Schoeny. "The amount of surveys turned in was tremendous!"
Schoeny said the "Positives" that rated highly were the friendly and caring group of people that live in Shannon, great schools, churches,
businesses and community events that are held throughout the year. "Negatives" included properties in need of repair, lack of a restaurant and a grocery store.
The "Needs and Desires" were full of suggestions that will be looked at individually and some things are already being addressed.
"In addition, the terrific support of many has allowed the formation of several committees that have met and are working on key areas in Shannon,"
she added."Three of the committees have already begun their plans. The Sesquicentennial Committee began with some memories of the last celebration
as well as making plans for 2010."
Schoeny said the Village Beautification Committee started off quickly and has completed a few things within days of their first meeting.
"The areas that they worked on are the small garden area on Market in between the Cafe' and the little white building. They cleared all of the
dead plants from the cafe's windows and put a new display in the storefront with student's artwork. They will be working on the corner garden next to Burger
and Brew and some other windows in the future."
Since the surveys were turned in, a new restaurant has opened as well. Fast Eddie's, located at 10 W. Market St., serves lunch and dinner six days
a week. It is owned and operated by Daryl and Sheila Johnson.
The Movie Night Committee held their first Movie Night on Saturday, June 13 at the fire station. Thirty-two people enjoyed the showing of
"Mary Poppins." The Blarney Stone provided popcorn and Gentry Lessman served lemonade. The movie committee is working on the movie lineup for the
rest of the summer.
Schoeny added that the new planters on Market Street and the sign at the corner by Casey's are the work of the Shannon Chamber. Also, First
State Bank of Shannon has graciously allowed Community Matters to leave the suggestion box set up for those who have ideas or complaints."Please feel
free to leave questions or comments in the suggestion box at any time. Thanks again Shannon for all of your great responses!"
