Robert V. Hendrick

Robert V. Hendrick, 92, of Toulon, died at 1:50 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, where he had been a patient since June 27th.

Bob was born March 26, 1918, in Stark, the son of Frederick and Nellie Ault Hendrick. He married Anna Mae McRell On October 5, 1940, at Clinton County, Iowa. She survives, along with two sons, Robert Eugene (Connie) Hendrick of Chadwick, IL, and Donald Lee (Cheryl) Hendrick of Toulon; and one daughter, Rosalie Ann (Allen) Goins of Toulon; five grandchildren & nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, James (Ethel “Et”) Hendrick of Savanna, IL. He was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Helle, and one brother, Elmer.

Bob played the fiddle in a band for several years where he was once featured on WLS Radio in Chicago. He met Anna Mae while he was doing a gig one night in Wyoming. His band was the first band that played at the Hub Ballroom. Bob & Anna Mae farmed in Essex and West Jersey Townships for many years, retiring in 1982. In August of 2000, they moved from the farm into Toulon. He was a member of the West Jersey United Methodist Church.

Bob was a loving and caring husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, at DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home. Rev. Fred Reiner will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toulon Fire Department, Stark County Ambulance Service, or Toulon Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Private condolences may be sent to the family via .

Louis L. Decker

Louis L. Decker, age 84, of Sterling, Illinois, formerly of Rayburn Country, Texas, and Chadwick, Illinois, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the CGH Medical Center in Sterling. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. Private family interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Lou’s name to the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. Louis was born on August 21, 1925, the son of Louis and Bertha (Leavens) Decker, at his grandparent’s home in Thomson, Illinois. Lou spent his childhood in Fulton, Illinois, Thomson, and Mount Carroll, graduating from Mount Carroll High School in 1944. He served in the United States Air Force from 1944 to 1946, and trained as a Radar Technician. Louis married Wanda Phillips on August 24, 1946. She preceded him in death on July 21, 1974. He later married Metta Norris on October 17, 1975. She preceded him in death on December 22, 1991. He then married Betty Hartman on June 4, 1994.

Louis attended the American Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Television Engineering in 1949. He worked forty years for the Motorola Corporation, retiring September 1, 1989, from the Cellular Telephone Group as a Manager of Quality Control. Upon retiring, Louis moved to Rayburn Country, Texas, where he had his retirement home built at Lake Rayburn. He enjoyed membership in several RV Clubs and Square Dance Clubs, but his real joy was his grandchildren and traveling in his motor home. Louis was on the Rayburn Country Fire Department for many years. He was a founding member of Our Savior United Methodist Church in Schaumburg, Illinois, and was a member of Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church and currently a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick.

Louis is survived by his wife Betty Decker of Sterling, Illinois; his son Louis P. (Sharla) Decker and his children, triplets, Ryan, Kayla, and Kelly, all of Weatherby Lake, Missouri; two step daughters, Connie (Ron) Brake of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Cathy (Dean) McNett of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; five step granddaughters, Amber Brake, Abbey Brake, Deidre (Tyler) Raulins, Melinda McNett and Danielle McNett; three sisters – in – law, Barbara Decker of Claremont, Florida, Bernice Decker of Eldridge, Iowa, and Judy Decker of Lombard, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Maynard Decker, Larry Decker, John Decker, and Robert Decker; and one sister – in – law, Ann Decker.

Marilyn Magill

Marilyn Magill, age 83, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Reverend Mark Harkness of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Marilyn’s name for the Mt. Marilyn was born September 28, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Carl and Maretha (Schopp) Campen. She is a 1944 graduate of John Burroughs High School and a 1948 graduate of Washington University, both in St. Louis. While attending Washington University, Marilyn met her husband, T. Nelson Magill. They were married May 26, 1950 in St. Louis. Nelson worked as an instructor at Washington University, until being hired by Shimer College to head up the Theatre Department in 1966, when they moved their family to Mt. Carroll. By this time, Marilyn and Nelson had two boys, Frank,12, and Matt, 6.

Marilyn loved Mt. Carroll. In 1979, she was elected to the City Council. During those years she organized the Mt. Carroll Young Person’s Theatre Group. Nelson passed away in 1988. Marilyn then decided she wanted to devote her time to the City of Mt. Carroll and was elected Mayor in 1989, she would go on to serve three terms. During her tenure as Mayor, she was very proud of the city services and the work ethic of our city workers and the police department. Marilyn was known as a good listener and someone who made a difference in people’s lives. She offered a place above city hall for youth athletic teams to gather and socialize after home games called the “Fifth Quarter.” Marilyn was a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church.

Marilyn will be dearly missed by her two sons, Frank (Betty Ann) Magill of Richardson, Texas and Matt Magill of Mt. Carroll; three grandchildren, Shaun, Jennah and Madison; her sister, Marjorie Casterline of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Nelson, and a sister, Maretha Smith.

Stanley Wagner

Stanley Wagner, formerly of Lanark, passed away June 14, 2010 at the VA Hospital at Boulder City. He will be remembered to many folks as he lived in Lanark many years and was a barber. After moving to Las Vegas, he worked for the airlines until he retired. He is survived by his sons Tim (Lisa) Wagner and Tom (Julie) Wagner, both of Las Vegas, two grandchildren T. J. Wagner or Las Vegas and Darcy Wagner of California, two sisters, Mabel Balk or Bluffton, IN and Betty (Louis) Decker of Sterling, IL. Cremation service was at the VA cemetery.

Eugene Crofton

Eugene (Gene) Lamont Crofton loved history, camping and hiking, and sharing stories and jokes; especially around a campfire.

He was born on September 10, 1936 to Bernard and Margaret Frederick Crofton and raised in Carroll County, Illinois. He attended Milledgeville schools and graduated from Lanark High School in 1955. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University and graduated with his B.A. 1959.

After college he moved to Washington State where he spent most of his adult life, raising a family and enjoying the great outdoors. In 2006 he moved to Tucson, Arizona to escape the damp, gray Seattle winters. In the summer he traveled in a small motor home to explore Arizona and escape Tucson’s summer heat

Pastor Wayne Carvell

Pastor Wayne Richard Carvell, 56, of Savanna, IL., died Saturday, July 10, 2010, of injuries resulting from a motorcycle accident while biking on Blackjack Road in Galena, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Mount Carroll Church of God. Reverends William Kermott, John Kermott and Patrick Allen Carvell will co-officiate. Burial will be in the Center Hill Cemetery, Savanna. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established in Wayne’s memory.

Diane Getz

Diane Getz 57 of rural Mount Carroll passed away July 11, 2010, at her home with her family by her side. There will be a private family gathering to lay Diane to rest after cremation rites are accorded.

Myrtle C. Mitchell

Myrtle C. Mitchell age 94, of Hanover, Illinois died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Funeral Services will held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Hanover United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeff Baer officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the Hanover United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given to the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Myrtle’s memory.
