Farm Bureau at a glanceGo To The Carroll County Farm BureauBy Chastity Welch, Carroll County ManagerPeach orders are flowing in at a steady pace. We will be taking orders until August 4. We are selling 25 pound boxes for $20 to members and $23 to non-members. A 25 pound is equal to half a bushel. The peaches will be delivered the third week of August. You may get an order form by contacting our office or on our website at www.carrollcfb.org. Well it seems like the mess in Springfield is going to continue as our Governor continues his term. Last week the General Assembly met for another special session. Our state is again in a budget battle. Some of the cuts the Governor looks to make will impact agriculture again! The cuts will effect county fairs, SWCD, Cooperative Extension, and many, many more. In fact all the total cuts made to agricultural related items are $13,147,600 as of the time I am typing this. We will just have to be patient at this point until we hear more and see how this all unravels. In the next few weeks, membership dues notices will be in the mail. The dues notices will include your membership cards at the bottom. These are then activated once payment is received here at our office. You will find in with your dues notice, an IFB value card which lists all of the statewide discounts. It will fold so you can tuck it right into your wallet. You will also find information on the Carroll County Farm Bureau Foundation. As we start this new membership year, we also start a new committee year. The Farm Bureau has a number of committees and ways for volunteers to get involved. They include the Women's Committee, 4C's, Young Leaders, Public Relations, Quality of Life, Education, and Membership. Some of these committees meet on a regular basis, others on a needs only. They plan the events, activities, and happenings we do during the year. They usually spark many new ideas throughout the year. If you are interested, you can contact us or visit our website at www.carrollcfb.org. Also don't forget out our local discount program. The IAA Credit Union is also available to all Farm Bureau Members. They have great loan rates and are very accommodating to work with. The value of a Farm Bureau membership can be more than recouped with all the benefits available. Don't forget about the Local Government Conference Series on July 29 at that Lena Community House. The three-hour Local Government Conference will be begin at 12:30 p.m. It will be preceded by a meal beginning at 11:30. This is an opportunity for you to learn the latest, share your thoughts and ask questions. Speakers include Illinois Farm Bureau specialists and local government officials that deal with these topics day-to-day. There is no charge for attendance, but advance registration is required.
