We are down to only 12 tickets left for the September 11 Cubs/Brewers game in Milwaukee. Cost is $70 for members and $75 for non-members. It is a 6:10 p.m. game. The bus will leave our office at 2 p.m. and return sometime in the night! I would guess about midnight or so. Reservations are needed by Monday, August 30 as we will return any tickets that are not sold.
Well the fair is over, and there went the summer. The Young Leaders would like to thank the following businesses for sponsoring the $50 Savings Bonds for 20 riders of the Sheep Rodeo: Milledgeville State Bank, Carroll Service Company, Clark Carroll Insurance, THE National Bank, Eastland Feed & Grain, Lanark Ag Center, Shank’s Veterinary Equipment, WCCI, 1st Farm Credit Services, First Class Insurance Agency, and COUNTRY Financial.
Don’t forget about the Farmer’s Markets in the county as you read below about one of Illinois Farm Bureau’s policies. Lanark has a Farmer’s Market on Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m. at the City Park, Shannon has a Farmer’s Market on Fridays from 3-5 p.m. in the lot between the Bistro and Shannon Lanes on Market Street, and Mount Carroll has a Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 8 a.m. – noon downtown Mount Carroll.
One of today’s hottest trends is “going local.” From buying vegetables to visiting the doctor, Americans are rediscovering products and services in their own backyards, and going local is nothing new for Illinois Farm Bureau members. For decades, IFB’s farming members have been creating policies that focus on local governments. IFB members then use those policies as roadmaps to build county, city, and township agencies that best serve agriculture and the community. See for yourself. Check out part of policy #114, Local Government:
We support the principle of strong local government and the assignment of responsibility for government services to that unit of general government which is closest to the people and can economically provide the service.
We will support legislation:
1. Providing uniform requirements, including the printed full name of the voter, for signers of all public petitions.
2. Requiring sizable bond issues of local governments to be offered at public sale.
3. Permitting consolidation of additional county functions between counties.
From setting policies to implementing them, farmers in our area have been building better communities through better governments. You can be part of it, too. Call our office for more information or to get involved in Farm Bureau policies. Visit www.ilfb.org to read the entire policy.
Carroll County Farm Bureau members can place up to two (2) free classified ads per week, with a limit of 250 characters per ad (not including

estate, garage sales, or commercial businesses will be accepted. To place an ad, call the Farm Bureau office at (815) 244-3001 by noon Friday to get your ad in
the following week's paper.
