Loran, the village, isn't in Loran Township, Stephenson County. It's in Jefferson Township. Why so is that one hundred fifty years ago, 1859, citizens living in the southwest corner of the county petitioned to be separated from its then host, Loran Township.

Here are the Queen candidates for the 2009 Shannon Homecoming Court. The Shannon Lions Club and the Shannon American Legion are again selling Raffle tickets for this year's Shannon Homecoming Labor Day Weekend Celebration going on this Labor Day Weekend in Shannon Illinois.

Tickets are by Donation in the amount of $1.00 each or 6 tickets for $5.00. The drawing for all prizes will be held on the evening of Monday September 7th, 2009 during the celebration.

Prizes were donated from businesses throughout Northwest Illinois to help support the efforts of the Legion and Lions Clubs in Shannon. Prizes included in the Raffle are :

DVD Player donated by the Bocker Auto Group, Battery String Trimmer donated by Murphy and Gustafson/ Freeport Lawn and Leisure, IHC Petal Tractor donated by Birkey's Farm Store, $100 gas card donated by Al's Quality Service of Shannon, engraved Stone w/ 4inch letters donated by Fischer Excavating, JD Petal tractor donated by Barkau Automotive, recliner Chair donated by LeBaron and Miller Interiors, Gas Grill donated by Crop Production Services, Berlin Express Wagon donated by The Artman Agency, $100 Gift Card donated by Process Screw, birdbath donated by Mid-West Cement Products, and a Digital Camera donated by the First State Bank Shannon/Polo/Lake Carroll.

Tickets are available from any Lion or Legion member and at the First State Bank in Shannon.
