Justin was born November 14, 1987 in Princeton, Illinois, to Bradley Lee and Sherry Lyn (Scott) Ellis. He attended the Hanover Elementary School and is a graduate of the River Ridge High School, Hanover with the class of 2006. Justin spent time traveling across the country. He was a very talented artist, mostly working with drawings and tattoos. He also was a gifted musician, playing the guitar and writing music. While in Hanover he spent much of his time at Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort, where he was a member of the Junior Ski Team and also worked as an instructor, teaching children to ski. He became an accomplished ski racer in USSA and WIJARA Racing, often competing in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. Justin also liked to ride motorcycles and go camping. Justin will be dearly missed by his mother and dad, Sherry (Todd) Flack of Hanover, Illinois; his father, Bradley Ellis of Florida; four brothers, Drew, Logan, Carter, and Caleb; and two sisters, Amber and Emily; Maternal grandparents, Joan (Edward) Alepra of Kewanee, Illinois; paternal grandparents, Barb (Don) Ellis of Heyworth, Illinois; maternal great grandmother, Josephine Scott of Princeton, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Stella Marie HatfieldStella Marie Hatfield, age 77, of Savanna, Illinois, passed from this life Saturday, August 23, 2008, at her home in Savanna surrounded by her loving family. Stella was born December 9, 1930, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Albert James and Phoeba (Sigafus) Tipp. She graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1949. Stella married Norman L. Hatfield on June 18, 1949, in Savanna. He died on October 19, 1994. Stella worked as a waitress and for the Avenue and Lincoln Schools in Savanna as the playground supervisor and in the lunchroom. Stella enjoyed collecting cookie jars, playing bingo, crocheting, and watching her grandchildren play baseball, and was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. She also was a Scout Leader and kept bowling records. Many children of all ages in Carroll County called her Mom and Grandma. She had a good heart and a never ending supply of love. Stella is survived and lovingly remembered by one son, Michael (Mary) Hatfield of Fort Wayne, Indiana; seven daughters, Belinda (Don) Atherton of Savanna, Deborah Gilmore of Savanna, Nancy (Larry) Wagner of Joy, Illinois, Lydia (Ray Andrews) Robinson of Savanna, Dale Marie Kubin of Angleton, Texas, Susan Franzen of Sabula, Iowa, and Sharon (Julien) Holmbo of Savanna; one adopted son, Norris Huddleston of Savanna; twenty – five grandchildren, twenty – two great – grandchildren; and two sister–in–laws, Gwen Tipp of California, and Clarissa Clements of Gastra, Michigan. Grace was born on September 20, 1913, in Woodbine, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Amy (North) Winters. She was married to Robert H. Krejci on June 18, 1937. Grace was a member of the Palisades Art League, a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, an Election Judge for 60 years, and a former member of many Church and Civic organizations over the years. She has had several published books of poetry and won many prizes for her paintings. She enjoyed time with her family and friends, traveling, and was an avid walker. Grace will be missed by all. She loved working with ceramics and she operated Alice’s Ceramics in Hanover for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary in Hanover. Alice enjoyed baking, especially cookies. Alice will be dearly missed by two nieces, Ellen (Frank) Pancoe of Glenn Ellyn, Illinois and Sandra Licher of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; two great nephews, Allen (Lori) Gray of Hanover, and Charles “Gus” Gray of Denver, Colorado; two great nieces, Shelley Anne Gray of Lake in the Hills, Illinois and Elissa Pancoe of Glenn Ellyn. She was a member of the Hanover United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Norma enjoyed crocheting and reading. One of her biggest passions was her flowers and flower gardens, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lester was born on July 24, 1915, the son of Theron and Elizabeth (Letto) Robert in Lanark. He served his country from 1942-1945 in the United States Army during World War II. Lester married Margaret Hoover-Jones on December 22, 1948 in Savanna, Illinois. Lester was employed by the Milwaukee Road Railroad in Bensenville, Illinois for 32 years as a switchman. Lester lived in Palatine, Illinois from 1957-1987; after the death of his wife Margaret in 1985, Lester decided it was time to move back to his hometown of Lanark. He loved all animals and was a lifetime member of the Illinois Game and Pet Breeders Association. He enjoyed collecting antiques and playing cards. Most of all, Lester cherished the time be spent with his family. Lester will be dearly missed by three sons, Frederick (Joy) Robert of Hayward, Wisconsin, Lester (Nellie) Robert of Bolingbrook, and Phillip Robert of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. BashawA memorial service will be held in celebration of the life of Vernon C. Bashaw on Friday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, IL. Born on a farm outside of Chadwick, Illinois on June 26, 1916 to Phineas D. and Ada L. (Bast) Bashaw, he passed away peacefully, Saturday August 9, 2008 at the age of 92. He was married to Virginia M. (Wagner) Bashaw on May 9, 1947 in Dixon, IL. They had been married 56 years at the time of her death in 2003. Bash earned his B.E. from Western State Teachers College in Macomb, Illinois and later received his M.A. in business from the University of Iowa. He taught secretarial classes at Princeton High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy following Pearl Harbor. He proudly served his country during WWII as a communications officer on the USS Natoma Bay and the USS Marcus Island in the Pacific theater as well as in Panama. Upon his return, he taught at Dixon High School in Dixon, IL and worked as a floral designer at Cook's Flowers and Gifts before moving to Elgin, where he helped establish, and later chaired the business department at Elgin Community College until his retirement in 1976. He is survived by three children; Rebecca Dwyer (Gene), Shelley Grosland (Steven), and Brent Bashaw, all of Elgin, as well as his beloved grandchildren; Kathryn Alvarado (David), Dr. Sarah Grosland, Emily Grosland, and Benjamin Dwyer; and dear great-granddaughters, Hannah and Ashley Alvarado. Mildred Edna MichaelMildred Edna Michael, 86, of Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL passed away Monday August 11, 2008 at Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA. Mildred was born October 10, 1921 in Antonito, Colorado to Claudius Roy and Lora Etta (Trostle) Wolf. She graduated from Lanark High School in Lanark, IL in 1939. Mildred married Oliver W. "Mike" Michael on June 7, 1941 in Lanark. She farmed with her late husband in Ogle and Carroll Counties for 24 years before moving to Fulton in 1968. She worked at Wilson Co. in Lanark, worked as an LPN at the Sterling hospital and later worked at Jane Lamb hospital in Clinton. She was a member of the Dutchtown Church in Milledgeville and was a member of the Whiteside County Home Extension. She loved to garden and crochet. The visitation was held August 13 with the funeral August 14 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Koch officiating. Interment was at the Lanark Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Elaine (Mrs. Bill) Jenkins of Polo,IL and Donna (Mrs. Ken) Okland of Fulton; one son, Ken (Pat) Michael of Friendswood, TX; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Joshua and Matthew Okland; Yvonne (Dave) Goad and Kristina Michael; two great granddaughters, Olivia and Charlette Goad.
