Farm Bureau at a glance

Go To The Carroll County Farm Bureau

By STEPHANIE FOLTZ, Summer Intern

If you have been thinking of getting a new vehicle, now is the time to do it. GM has just announced they are offering the GM Employee Discount to everyone now through September 2. The even better news is the Farm Bureau Private Offer is compatible with the discount. So all members can get an additional $500 off of most new GM vehicles or $750 off of any new GM Flex-fuel vehicle. With savings like this, it is almost too good to pass up!
We have honey for sale again. We have found a new local supplier and have plenty on hand. The best news of all is the price is the same as the old supplier! Speaking of our edible sales, I hope all you who bought peaches enjoyed them. We sold 205 boxes which is a record for our county. I have not done much with mine yet, but our office assistant Jessica did tell me she heard about grilling them. So I cut up two of them and grilled them with brown sugar and cinnamon. They were great with a little bit of ice cream. I suppose that took the healthy right out of them.

Back in the August 4 issue of FarmWeek in a special section, there was an article on Township Highway Commissioner Authority. This article has drawn some questions. If you have not read the article you can follow a link from our website (www.carrollcfb.org) to it. The purpose of it is to find out how our members feel about the authority township road commissioners have. The state resolutions committee is looking for the benefits and drawbacks of any proposed policy change. We would like to hear from you on how you feel about the authority township road commissioners have. Feel free to contact me at the office at 815-244-3001 or via email at carrollcfb@grics.net. You may also talk to any of our Farm Bureau Board of Directors.

Here is a monthly IFB Policy brief. Each month, I will feature an Illinois Farm Bureau policy and explanation about it. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call.

Get to Know Your Policy: Harvest & Gas Prices

It used to be that fueling up your combine was time to wash the windows and pick up yesterday's snack wrappers. This year, though, it feels like a good time to think about how much that tank-full is costing you. We want to give you something else to think about during that time, one of Illinois Farm Bureau's policies #12, Energy:

"We will support encouraging the American Farm Bureau Federation to work aggressively with legislators to enable more U.S. oil and gas production by opening known oil and gas reserves in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR), off shore and in the U.S. mainland, explore for additional oil and gas sites, and build new oil and gas refineries."

Channel your fuel concerns this harvest into something positive. While you're in the combine, call Carroll County Farm Bureau at 815-244-3001 and give us your opinion about this policy. If you want to read this entire policy section, visit www.ilfb.org.
