Rich was born September 27, 1934 in Pleasant Valley Township on the family farm, the son of Herman and Lucille (Kupfer) Zink. He attended the Good Hope Country School, Pleasant Valley Twp., and graduated from the Stockton High School with the Class of 1952. Rich served in the US Army in Germany. On March 29, 1974, Rich married Ann Rebecca (Miller) Kuhl. Rich had worked at Leslie Lock in Mt. Carroll, which became Woods Manufacturing. He had also worked at Eaton Corp. of Savanna, American Air Filter of Morrison, and Rolling Hills Progress Center, Lanark. Family meant everything to Rich, being a Dad was his biggest pride and joy. He liked antiques, fishing and was an avid collector. Rich loved to sit and visit with his buddies at coffee. He was a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church, the Mississippi Masonic Lodge of Savanna and a past member of Cyrus Masonic Lodge of Mt. Carroll. Rich will be dearly missed by his wife, Ann of Mt. Carroll; his son, John (Carisa) Zink of San Ramon, California; his sister, Loraine (Ron) Heffelfinger of Winnebago, Illinois; two brothers, Gary (Jennifer) Zink of Savanna and Larry (Karen) Zink of Mt. Gwenn was born on November 29, 1936, in Freeport, Illinois, to Ellsworth and Lenice (Miller) Brown. He grew up and attended High School in Warren, Illinois graduating with the class of 1956. On July 10, 1958, Gwenn married Jean Ann Harkness in Dubuque, Iowa. Gwenn worked as a tree trimmer for a couple of years before starting his 38 year career with the Illinois Chicago Central Railroad. In his spare time Gwenn loved hunting, fishing, traveling, listening to country music, watching professional wrestling and spending time with his family, and especially the family gatherings. Gwenn is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother William Burnell Brown, of Independence, Iowa. Prudence married Marvin Brookstra on October 7, 1941 in Thomson. Marvin died in 1983. Prudence was a homemaker, who loved taking care of her family. She also taught at Spring Valley School and in Pearl City, Illinois. She was a member of the Fulton Eastern Star and was a former Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved spending her retirement years in Sun City, Arizona, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, golfing and bowling. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chadwick, Chapter C2 Motorcycle Club, Freeport, and a lifetime member of GWRA (Gold Wing Roadriders Association). Jennie was born on May 10, 1926 in Franklin Township, Appanoose County, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond John and Iva Genoia (Minks) Leonard. She attended Valley School, which was a one-room school house in Appanoose County, Iowa. She was named “Champion Speller” by the Des Moines Register in 1938. Jennie later attended and graduated from Cincinnati High School in Cincinnati, Iowa, with the Class of 1944. She married John Calvin Goetz on August 29, 1944 in Savanna. He passed away on May 12, 1995. Jennie moved to Savanna in 1944 and began working at the Savanna Army Ordinance Depot where she met her future husband, John Calvin. After they were married, Jennie became a homemaker and spent her days lovingly taking care of her family. Jennie was very musical and enjoyed playing guitar and singing with her brother, Charles Ray, in their church choir. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and gardening and listening to music played by loved ones. She loved canning the vegetables from her garden. Jennie is survived and lovingly remembered by two sons, Freddy (Sandra) Goetz of Savanna, and Gary (Susan) Goetz of Las Vegas, Nevada; two daughters, Alishia Rubio of Savanna, and Myra Valladares of Silvis, Illinois; five grandchildren, Nathan, John Andrew, Andrea, Alexis, and Alex; four great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Ray (Margaret) Leonard of Bloomfield, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Goetz Gnade of Maquoketa, Iowa and Maxine Goetz of Savanna; several nieces and nephews; and three special kitties, Luke, Sasha, and Simba.. Audrey ErbsenAudrey Erbsen, 90 of Pearl City, died Wednesday August 20, 2008 at Liberty Village in Freeport, Illinois. Audrey was born on December 25, 1917 in Pearl City, the daughter of Harry and Vivian (Gillman) Papp. She married Alvin Erbsen on November 26, 1936 at Ebenezer Church. She and her husband were lifelong Pearl City farmers and she retired from the Pearl City school cafeteria. She was a member of Ebenezer United Church and served as the church organist for many years, and was a member of the Church Women's Guild. She is survived by one son; Joel Erbsen of Pearl City, one daughter; Judy (Tim) Ames of Hertel, Wisconsin, eleven grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Alvin on April 20, 1998. Services were held on Saturday August 23, 2008 at Ebenezer United Church of Christ with Reverend James Brown officiating. Visitation was held at Offenheiser-Schwarz Funeral Home in Pearl City. Justin was born November 14, 1987 in Princeton, Illinois, to Bradley Lee and Sherry Lyn (Scott) Ellis. He attended the Hanover Elementary School and is a graduate of the River Ridge High School, Hanover with the class of 2006. Justin spent time traveling across the country. He was a very talented artist, mostly working with drawings and tattoos. He also was a gifted musician, playing the guitar and writing music. While in Hanover he spent much of his time at Chestnut Mountain Ski Resort, where he was a member of the Junior Ski Team and also worked as an instructor, teaching children to ski. He became an accomplished ski racer in USSA and WIJARA Racing, often competing in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. Justin also liked to ride motorcycles and go camping. She loved working with ceramics and she operated Alice's Ceramics in Hanover for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary in Hanover. Alice enjoyed baking, especially cookies. She has had several published books of poetry and won many prizes for her paintings. She enjoyed time with her family and friends, traveling, and was an avid walker. Grace will be missed by all. Stella Marie HatfieldStella Marie Hatfield, age 77, of Savanna, Illinois, passed from this life Saturday, August 23, 2008, at her home in Savanna surrounded by her loving family. Hatfield on June 18, 1949, in Savanna. He died on October 19, 1994. Stella worked as a waitress and for the Avenue and Lincoln Schools in Savanna as the playground supervisor and in the lunchroom. Stella enjoyed collecting cookie jars, playing bingo, crocheting, and watching her grandchildren play baseball, and was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. She also was a Scout Leader and kept bowling records. Many children of all ages in Carroll County called her Mom and Grandma. She had a good heart and a never ending supply of love. Stella is survived and lovingly remembered by one son, Michael (Mary) Hatfield of Fort Wayne, Indiana; seven daughters, Belinda (Don) Atherton of Savanna, Deborah Gilmore of Savanna, Nancy (Larry) Wagner of Joy, Illinois, Lydia (Ray Andrews) Robinson of Savanna, Dale Marie Kubin of Angleton, Texas, Susan Franzen of Sabula, Iowa, and Sharon (Julien) Holmbo of Savanna; one adopted son, Norris Huddleston of Savanna; twenty five grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren; and two sisterinlaws, Gwen Tipp of California, and Clarissa Clements of Gastra, Michigan.
