HCC Board Approves Agreement
to Offer Bachelor of Science in Nursing on Campus
During their August meeting, Highland Community College Trustees approved an agreement with Olivet Nazarene University School of Graduate and Continuing Education to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion program on the Highland campus.
“We are excited about this new partnership with Olivet Nazarene University,” said Vice President of Academic Services Tim Hood. ”It will serve to provide Highland nursing graduates and other area healthcare professionals another local pathway to completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and, of course, Olivet Nazarene’s reputation as a high quality educational institution is well-known.”
The cohort program will require a minimum of 12 students to begin, and classes will be held once a week in the evening. Highland officials are planning a signing ceremony with representatives from Olivet Nazarene University to be held in September. More information regarding the program will be available at that time.
This new program will be an additional option to the OSF Saint Anthony College of Nursing BSN completion program also in place at Highland. Persons interested in either program should contact Donna Kauke in the HCC Nursing and Allied Health Department at 815.599.3688 or email@example.com .
Trustees also approved the naming of the Highland Community College Bookstore, located in the Student/Conference Center, the J. Rosemary Shockey HCC Bookstore. The HCC Foundation received a generous gift from trustee David D. Shockey in return for the naming opportunity in honor of his mother. Mrs. Shockey was a teacher in the Stephenson County rural schools for three decades and served on the HCC Foundation Board for 15 years. She is currently an honorary member of the Foundation Board.
In personnel matters, Trustees approved the appointment of Anthony Sago as Director, Title IV Student Support Services. Sago has been serving as interim director awaiting information on funding of the Project Succeed program. Trustees also approved the appointments of two new instructors in the Nursing and Allied Health department, including Christine Sanders as full-time nursing instructor, and Lori Scibona, as adjunct medical assistant instructor.
In other action, Trustees approved the CollegeNOW agreement with Pecatonica C.U.S.D. #321 for the 2013 – 2014 school year; appointed Jim Endress to serve as the College’s voting delegate for the Association of Community College Trustees Annual Leadership Congress in October, and Diane Gallagher to serve as the alternate delegate; authorized the Audit Committee of the Board to review the annual audit and authorize submission to the Illinois Community College Board prior to the October 15, 2013 deadline; authorized the transfer of interest from the Working Cash Fund to the Educational Fund for General Purposes.
