Campbell Center Gilded Frame Workshop Attracts Trainees From 4 States
Hubert Baiji from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam demonstrates gilding conservation techniques at a recent workshop at the Campbell Center.
On July 23-26, Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies conducted a workshop on Conservation of Gilded Picture Frames. The workshop was taught by Hubert Baija, Senior Frames Conservator at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Mr. Baija has been teaching gilding workshops at the Campbell Center since 2002. He always enjoys his time in Mount Carroll.
Five students attended the workshop for 4 days of intensive hands-on training. They came from the Gerald Ford Conservation Center in Omaha, Nebraska, the Baltimore Art Museum, the Missouri History Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
