Carroll County Farm Bureau

By Chastity Welch, Farm Bureau Manager

Educational meetings for farmland owners have been scheduled around the state of Illinois during the month of October. Locally one is scheduled for Thursday, October 4 beginning at 6 pm at the Ogle County Farm Bureau Building, 421 West Pines Road, Oregon, Illinois. The program is designed to help landowners better manage their farmland and increase their economic return. The meetings are sponsored by US Farm Lease.

The program presenters will discuss useful, valuable information for landowners in a clear and easy to understand format. The program will focus on the following topics

• Current Farmland Lease Trends

• Farmland Values and Investment Returns

• Farmer Profitability in Today’s Market Place

• Determining Illinois Soil Productivity Indexes for Your Farmland

• Protecting Your Farm’s Soil Nutrient Bank

• Estate Planning Tips

US Farm Lease will also present a web based tool to help landowners achieve fair market lease arrangements and help farmers find land available for rent.

Kevin Brooks, specializing in farm management and farmer profitability for US Farm Lease, will be presenting.

There is no charge for the program but pre-registration is requested by contacting Kevin Brooks by phone at 877-232-4002 or by email at kevin@usfarmlease.com. The meeting will begin at 6 pm and conclude at 9 pm with light refreshments being served.

There will be many things to consider and learn about, especially following this challenging farming year of 2012.

Again this year the Carroll County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee will be providing local agricultural businesses with safety buckets filled with candy for the harvest season.

The committee has been busy assembling small bags of candy with safety tips on each for farmers to grab as they are out and about, reminding them to be safe during harvest.

Bags containing Laffy-Taffy say “It’s not laughing matter, safety 1st this fall.” Others bags include, Snickers paired with “Farm safety is nothing to snicker at,” Dum-Dum suckers paired with “Don’t be a dum-dum, play it safe this fall,” Rollo’s paired with “Don’t be a ‘Rollo-ver’ victim! Make sure you operate tractors with rollover protection” and Hershey’s bars paired with “Use your brain; play it safe this fall!”
