The Morrison Rotary Club’s 26th Annual Harvest Hammer 5K Run & Duathlon ran without a hitch on Saturday morning, Sept. 21, at the Morrison High School. There were 547 participants - 240 5K runners; 97 Individual Duathletes; 19 Team Duathletes - “and Kids, LOTS of them!” said race organizer Kathy Schmidt. “We had participants from Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Illinois, made up of 260 Female and 211 Male athletes.”

Ben Treakle of Comanche, IA was the overall winner of the 5K run, finishing in 19:11. The winner of the Women’s Division was 13-year-old Meagan Moreno of Morton, IL, with a time of 22:07.

Sterling’s Bryce Mead was the winner of the Duathlon with a time of 1:09:41. The top female rider was Nicole Williams of Sterling, who completed the run/ride in 1:21:46.

Here are the Wee Run Winners: Male: 1. Chase Newman, 2. Cooper Bush, 3. Carson Strating; Female: 1. Emery Brewer, 2. Jordan Eads, 3. Gigi Connelly.

The Fun Run Winners - Male 1. Trevor Cobo, 2. Skylar Drolema, 3. Jacob Dykema; Female: 1. Emily Henson, 2. Bailey Brewer, 3. Anna Mickley.

Challenge Run Winners are Male: 1. Koby Brackemyer, 2. Nathan Mickley, 3. Aaron Wolf; Female: 1. Michaela Dornbush, 2. Lauren Melton, 3. Ava Williams.

The Morrison Rotary Club, sponsors of the event, donate the proceeds to benefit local youth, education, and community and international projects. Thirty-six community sponsors helped the cause, and the Mount Carroll Rotary Club operated the complimentary refreshment center. In a mutually-beneficial arrangement, Morrison Rotarians reciprocate during Mount Carroll’s Mayfest celebration.
