This past week, I got the chance to present at the 2nd Grade Conservation and Ag Day sponsored by the Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation District and our Ag Literacy Coalition. A few years ago we started a program called “There is a Pig in my Pizza!” However with funding and transportation issues for schools, it became apparent that if we wanted to continue or program, it would be more beneficial doing a joint program. So we ditched the pizza and incorporated ag sessions into the conservation programs. The second grade students visited 10 different stations: dairy, beef, soils, corn and soybeans, and pigs for the ag portion. For the conservation portion, the stations were: recycling, bird ID, fish and aquatics, enviroscape, and ground water. Volunteers are lined up to present each station.
The day was held out at Camp Benson which makes the perfect location. There is plenty of room for all the stations, the kids have room to run, they pack their lunches and can enjoy a picnic lunch. It is always a lot of fun to take part in the day as the kids get so excited about the non-traditional style of learning. They also find their compost /recycling dessert to be a huge hit. For me it is way too much chocolate!
This year we are again offering a free family portrait to Carroll County Farm Bureau members. Katie Lynn Photography will be taking pictures here at the office on Saturday, November 24 and Sunday, November 25. The hours on Saturday will be 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Sunday 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. As an expression of our appreciation for your participation and membership in your organization, we have made arrangements to provide you with … a FREE 8” x 10” full color portrait of your family.
Call our office at 815-244-3001 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to reserve your sitting. Appointments are limited to a first-come, first-serve basis, so please call today.
This program is limited to one (1) FREE portrait per sitting, one (1) sitting per family, not per membership. Children under 18 must be accompanied by adult in the free portrait. You may wish to invite GRANDPARENTS, PARENTS, and CHILDREN for a generation portrait. With it being Thanksgiving weekend, it is a perfect time to get everyone together for a family photo.
If you have not paid your dues yet, you still have a few days to get them in before the $10 late fee kicks in. Dues must be postmarked by October 1 to avoid the late fee. If you are unsure how much your dues are, just give our office a call.
If you did not order a “This is a Family Farm” sign and would like one, we have some in stock. They are $20 each. They can be picked up here at our office. We also have free signs for farmers that say “Pass With Caution” if you have an implement you would like to post this one, just stop on in to get them. Don’t forget we also have on hand for $5 new SMV symbols if you have one that is worn out.
