By late summer, 1848, the “Minnehaha” arrived at St. Louis with its oddly mixed crew. The Great Fire destroyed the ark that had carried those agents in their preparation of another moving picture panorama but by that time the artist, Henry Lewis, had moved on to Cincinnati where a studio had been leased in which to paint the miles of canvas with images of the Mississippi Valley.
