WC FFA Novice Parliamentary Team Takes 2nd at State Contest

The West Carroll FFA Novice Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of chairman, Brianna Kampmeier; secretary, Cassie Johnson; and floor members Chelsea Wurster, Quinn Rumler, Bailey Durward and Cameron Ehlers placed 2nd at the State FFA Novice Parliamentary Procedure Contest held June 11 at the 85th Illinois FFA State Convention. The West Carroll team score was 767.75 finishing second to Richland with 847.50. Individually, West Carroll’s Brianna Kampmeier placed 2nd as a chairperson and Cassie Johnson, 3rd as a floor member. A Parliamentary Procedure Contest consists of members completing a 25 question multiple choice test, doing a 10 minute demonstration using parliamentary motions, and answering questions about the motions used in the demonstration.

The West Carroll FFA Chapter received numerous awards at the Illinois State FFA Convention held June 11-13 at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois.

Twenty West Carroll FFA members were among nearly 3500 Illinois State FFA members who attended the 85th Annual Illinois State FFA Convention. The theme of this year’s convention was “Growing Legacies.”

On Tuesday, June 11, at the opening convention session, the West Carroll FFA chapter was recognized as being a $3000 FFA Foundation Sponsor and as Section #1 FFA winner in the Student Development area of the Program of Activities. The keynote address was given by Brennan Costello, Central Region FFA Vice President, and was titled “Engage.” In the evening at the second convention session, all State FFA Foundation Proficiency Award winners were presented. Tyson Shulte, State FFA Treasurer, gave his retiring address titled “Nicknames.” After the second session, the annual Illinois Association FFA Dance was held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

On Wednesday, June 12, at the third convention session, West Carroll was awarded the top chapter in Section #1 FFA for its Chapter Development portion of the Program of Activities. Joel Limestall, Illinois State FFA Secretary, gave his retiring address titled “Staring at the Sun.” The keynote and motivational speaker, Sam Glenn, delivered his speech titled “I Dare You.” The fourth convention session had Courtney Gerstenecker, State FFA Reporter, give her retiring address titled “Not an Ordinary Fishing Tale.” West Carroll was awarded the Century Challenge Award, which indicates the chapter had at least 100% of its agriculture students join the FFA. The evening activity included trips to the Knights Action Water Park and to the White Oaks Mall for dining and shopping.

On Thursday, June 13, at the fifth convention session, Dalton Heavner, State FFA Vice President, gave his retiring address titled “Songs in Real Life.” During this session, the West Carroll FFA won the Illinois Banker’s Plaque for best overall FFA Program of Activities in Section #1 FFA with a gold rating. West Carroll FFA will now compete nationally with its POA at the National FFA Convention later this fall. At the sixth and final session, Darren Riskedal, State FFA President, gave his retiring address titled “Growing Legacies.” Also during this session, West Carroll FFA members, Chloe Carson, Samantha Boyer, Jacob Ritchie, Janelle Dykstra, and Jared Root were formally granted their State FFA Degrees. Kylie Beaston and Kaylee Vos also earned the State FFA Degree but were unable to attend the convention.

The West Carroll FFA Chapter had 20 members attend the 85th Illinois FFA Convention. The West Carroll FFA Advisors are Dan Hartman and Don Mathey.
