Community Lenten Services

Once again this year, several churches in Mount Carroll will be joining together for Wednesday evening worship during Lent. They invite the entire community to these events.

The service will be at Ss. John and Catherine Catholic Church. Fellowship begins at 6:00 p.m. with a free soup meal at host church, followed by a short worship service at 7:00 p.m., with the Ten Commandments as the theme, this year.

Carroll County CEDS Meets

The Carroll County CEDS Committee will meet on the third Wednesday of the month in 2009 at 6:30 pm in the Carroll County Courthouse Conference Room, 301 N. Main St. Mt. Carroll, IL.

Catholics Invited to Return Home

Area Catholic Churches will be conducting an ongoing series called “Catholics Returning Home” on six consecutive Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton beginning on February 24. These sessions are for Catholics who have been away from the practice of their faith for any reason, and who are now seeking answers to questions they may have about returning to the Church. The sessions promise to be welcoming and informal, and will include updates about the Catholic faith. No RSVP necessary. Hug somebody–with a shawl

The Lanark United Methodist Church Shawl Ministry invites anyone to come knit with us. We witness to God’s love by knitting, blessing, and giving shawls to those in need of friendship, celebration, healing, and comfort. Pancake and Sausage Supper

A Pancake and Sausage Supper will be served at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pearl City on Thursday, March 18 serving from 4:30 - 7:30 pm. Tickets sold at door. GriefShare Seminars

GriefShare is a 13 week video seminar support group that will begin meeting on Thursday February 18th at 6:00 p.m. and each Thursday thereafter. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, parent, sibling or other family member or friend through death, you probably have questions. Each week there will be interaction with others who have also experienced losses. Light refreshments will be served. Stewards Refuge Meeting

Stewards of the Upper Mississippi River Refuge will hold their monthly meeting on Friday, March 19th at 11:00 at the Ingersoll Wetlands Learning Center. The Center is located 4 miles south of Savanna, on Riverview Road. Stewards will meet at the Center at 8:30 am for an eagle tour prior to the meeting. Ready . . . Set . . . Grow – Gardening 2010

This program is being held on Saturday, March 20 at Sauk Valley Community College, Dixon, Illinois from 9 am to 3:15pm. This is sponsored by Lee, Ogle and Whiteside County Master Gardeners. Registrants will be able to choose from a variety of sessions.

Catholics Returning Home

If you are a Catholic who has been away from the Church for a while, this invitation is for you.  St. Mary Morrison Church will present a series of six, informal listening sessions and an update on the Catholic faith, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, February 16.  The series is titled “Catholics Returning Home” and will be held at the Church Parish Hall, 13320 Garden Plain Road, Morrison, IL.  The once-a-week sessions end Tuesday, March 23. The sessions are conducted in a support-group format and are facilitated by a former non-practicing Catholic, assisted by other members of the parish. Annual ST. Patrick’s Day Dinner

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, hosted by members of the Church of St. Anne, Morrison, will be held this Wednesday, March 17, in the Community Room at the Odell Public Library, in Morrison. A traditional and complete corned beef and cabbage dinner, including beverage and dessert will be served from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Take out dinners are also available. Come and enjoy a bit of the Irish! Good company, great food, and lively Irish music and dance! We hope to see you!

Chadwick Masonic Lodge #867 will be hosting a Chili/Oyster Stew Supper on March 21 from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the Chadwick Lodge. The public is welcome.

1st Annual Soup Supper

Men of First Presbyterian Church in Savanna will be serving a Soup Supper Wednesday, March 24 before the InterChurch Council Lenten Service. The group will be offering 4 different homemade soups, homemade bread and a special dessert. A free will offering will be asked. Serving will begin at 5:30 PM to enable everyone to attend the lenten service that starts at 7:00 PM. If there are leftovers, the men will serve soup after the service for anyone that missed the earlier serving. All proceeds will be used for a youth mission trip. Please come for the great food, uplifting service and community fellowship.

West Carroll Fashion Show

The West Carroll High School National Honor Society will be having a Fashion Show at the West Carroll Primary School on Saturday, March 27th at 2:00 PM. People of all ages are welcome to come to watch the entertaining show. Dresses for homecoming, prom, and graduation will be modeled. Anyone can buy or sell these dresses. There will also be a luncheon sponsored by the Savanna Moose that begins at noon. For more information, please call Mr. Baisden at the High School at 815-273-7715 extension 712. Aglow International

Aglow International is hosting a women’s meeting on Saturday, March 27th. It will be held at 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Land of Oz, 855 S. Dog Jack Official Greeter

Dog Jack will be a featured guest at the RockfordTeaParty. His real name is Piglet and he is also the Official RockfordTeaParty Mascot, and yes, Piglet is a full fledged Movie Star. He stars in a movie portraying a civil war dog that became a hero to the soldiers for his daring dashes onto battlefields to find downed comrades. Tracy Doyle, a RockfordTeaParty Participant, is Piglet’s owner and they will be Official Greeters at the Event on April 6th (Visit www.rockfordteaparty.org for details). Midwest Roundup

The “Midwest Roundup”, an all day family event will take place on Sunday, April 11th, at the Stephenson County Fair Grounds in Freeport, Illinois.  This unique all day event will focus on the beef industry. Approx. 60 lots will be offered, including productive bred cows, powerful bred heifers, elite show heifers, and service age bulls, and breeds like Angus, Simmental, Maine, Shorthorn and Crossbreds. Nearly thirty local, regional, and national businesses will promote their products.
