Food pantry new hours

The Pearl City area Outreach Food Pantry from 9-11 a.m. for drop-off the first Saturday of the month. Then pick-up will on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 9-11 a.m. Located in the lower level of the Pearl City Methodist Church.

GROwing Table meals serviced

The GROwing Table open from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday with Warm meals served at no charge, open to the public. Donations accepted. Located at the old Chestnut Park School Facility - now the New Unity Deliverance & Worship Center, 926 Viaduct Rd, Savanna. Veterans commission

The Carroll County Veterans Assistance Commission (located in the Carroll County Courthouse), is open 8 a.m. to noon Mon., Wed. and Fri. The first and third Wed. of the month, an IDES veterans employment representative is available to help with veterans' employment needs. Wysox Township Library

The Wysox Township Library at Milledgeville will host a story time every Wednesday, beginning on January 9 and continuing through May 28. Story times begin at 10:00 and are open to children accompanied by an adult. For more information, call the library at 815-225-7572.

HRRV creates a support group

Hospice of the Rock River Valley invites individuals to attend "Always a Parent." They will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month (Jan. 3). Any parent who has lost a child of any age is invited to come share, laugh, communicate and heal. They will meet at the Hospice of the Rock River Valley office.

Country, folk, open mic night

There will be an open microphone night for country music and folk songs, featuring guitars, banjos, mandolins and other instruments, from 7-11 p.m. every second Friday of the month (Jan. 11), at the Heritage Center, 106 S. Board St., Lanark.

Fairboard meeting

The Carroll County Fairboard will meet at 7 p.m. the 1st Wednesday of every month. Nov. - April meetings will meet at the Milledgeville City Hall and May ñ Oct. meetings will be at the Carroll County Fairgrounds. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.

Grieving is O.K.

Support could be a means of beginning your journey through the grief brought about by the loss of your loved one or dear friend. Join the Volunteer Hospice of Northwest IL from 7-9 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month (Jan. 8), in the Heritage Room at the Stockton Banking Center on Hwy 20 East, Stockton and is handicap accessible. Moms, dads, grandparents bring your daughter to class and learn the art of "French" braiding, reverse "French" braiding, two-plaited braiding and other ideas for putting up your daughter's hair for the hot summer. Digital Nature Photography For Kids

Spend a morning with an avid photographer and learn the basics of nature photography. You will need to bring your own camera and have knowledge of the various settings on it prior to the class. Class will take place at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in Thomson, Illinois. There will be time allotted to take photos on the Upper Mississippi River Refuge. Transportation is provided from Clinton Community College to the site. Students must be aged 9 and older. Wanted: Fish Biologist!

Hey, kids! Have you ever thought about becoming a Fish Biologist? Come experience for yourself some of the things fish biologists do as they learn about the critters that call the Mississippi River home. Participants will travel the backwaters and see firsthand many species of turtle and fish such as largemouth bass, rock bass, sunfish, gar, sturgeon and possibly a paddlefish. Students must be aged 9-12 to participate. Life vests are provided. Using GPS To Connect With Nature

Wayfinding has come a long way since the day when we used a compass. Even though compasses are still being used today, new technology such as GPS (Global Positioning System) is providing the wanderer a new method. Participants will learn how to use the Garmin eTrex unit and complete a scavenger hunt to practice new skills.
