Russell Eugene Parmenter

Russell Eugene Parmenter, 83, of Moline, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at his home.

Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church. Burial is at Chapel Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E 4th Ave., Milan, where the Andalusia Masonic Lodge 516 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a service at 5:15 p.m. Memorial gifts to the Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church are appreciated, address: 13310 70th St. West, Taylor Ridge, IL 61284-9252.

Russell was born on November 4, 1927 the son of Myron and Elizabeth (McConnell) Parmenter and grew up in Taylor Ridge, Illinois. He graduated from Reynolds High School, attended Michigan State, served in the Korean War then graduated from Augustana College in 1950.

He married Betty Lou Salato in 1951; they have three sons and one daughter. Russell was a founding member of Nu Way Manufacturing and Sundstrand. He devoted most of his career to his passion for accounting and financial planning at Outboard Marine Corporation, was Comptroller at Cottage Hospital, Cook County Tuberculosis Sanitarium, Rock Island Packaging Company and was owner of Parmenter Management and Accounting Services in Downers Grove and Rock Island. He was a member of many organizations including Independent Accountants Association of Illinois, Masons, and served as President of Kiwanis Club in Galesburg, IL. He was a big band music enthusiast and enjoyed dancing.

He was a member of the Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church and Downers Grove Methodist Church.

He is survived by one sister, Esther (Charles) Gustafson; three sons, Gary of Westchester, IL, Edwin of Denver, CO, and Mark (Sandy Klochan) Parmenter of Germantown, TN; one daughter, Sandi Parmenter of Freeport, IL, two granddaughters, Kristen Parmenter of Hampton, VA, Brittany Parmenter of Germantown, TN; two grandsons, Andrew Parmenter and Eric Parmenter of Germantown, TN; one niece, Beth Wilfong of Jamestown, NY; one nephew, Timothy Gustafson of Albuquerque, NM; many McConnell, Salato and Parmenter cousins;

He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Mildred (Cowdrey) Salato; father Myron, his mother Elizabeth (McConnell) Parmenter, his wife Betty Lou (Salato) Parmenter, his father-in-law Louis Salato, his mother-in-law Adele Salato, his grandson Daniel Louis Parmenter.

Frederick F. Nycum

Frederick F. Nycum, age 92, of Lanark, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.

He was the son of Roy S. and Lillian (Folk) Nycum and was born at the family farm east of Mt. Carroll on Mother’s Day May 11, 1919.

On May 21, 1950, Frederick and Lois Carol Zuck were married at the home of the bride’s parents in Lanark. They recently observed their 61st anniversary.

Frederick graduated from the Mt. Carroll High School with the Class of 1937. For several years he was employed in the Mt. Carroll office of the Carroll County Agriculture Conservation Association. During WWII he served three years in the Army. One of those years he was in the states, and two in the European theater. At the time of his discharge he had attained the rank of Master Sergeant.

In 1947 his employment commenced at the Carroll County Courthouse in the Circuit Clerk and Recorder’s office. He was serving as the chief deputy Circuit Clerk at the time of his retirement in 1977.

At an early age he was baptized at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mt. Carroll where he remained an active member until his death, at which time he was the oldest lifetime member. He was also a member of the Mt. Carroll American Legion.

Some of his favorite past-time activities included reading, walking along the creek, and photography. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling and had visited most of the states and much of Canada.

Surviving are his wife, Lois, and a few cousins. His parents and one brother, Williard predeceased him.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mt. Carroll with Pastor Elizabeth Mascal officiating. Burial will be in the Lanark Cemetery. Visitation will be held 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Good Samaritan Society of Mt. Carroll. Robert David Stoner

Robert David Stoner, 87, of Lanark, passed away on Monday May 23, 2011 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

He was born to David and Cecile (Fredrick) Stoner on October 19, 1923 in Freeport, IL.

He married Dorothy Derrer on November 30, 1944. He farmed around the Shannon and Lanark area until he retired in 1979. He was a member of First Brethren Church in Lanark and Rock Creek Grange. He liked mushroom hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Lanark; two sons: Darrell (Carol) Stoner and Duane (Bonnie) Stoner, both of Shannon; daughter-in-law Beverly Stoner of Lanark; eight grandchildren: Melissa (Paul) Schake, Steven (Jamie) Stoner, Stephanie (Jason) Steen, Ryan (Shelley) Stoner, Sarah (Tim) Kaus, Calli Stoner, Cassi (Chris) Sturtz, Codie (Amanda) Stoner; and twenty-five great-grandchildren; he is also survived by two sisters: Arlene (Mervin) Diehl and Janice (Jim) Dillow, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Oris Stoner, sister Ardis Smith, son Dennis Stoner in 1991, grand-daughters Staci and Traci Stoner, and great-grand-daughter Ebony Sturtz.

The family would also like to say very special “Thank You” to Davita Freeport Dialysis.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday May 27, 2011 at First Brethren Church in Lanark with Pastor E.C. Lathrop. Burial will be at Lanark Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:00 am on Friday until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Arrangements are being handled by the Russell-Frank Funeral Home.

Avis Ruth Walter

Avis Ruth Walter, age 85, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at the Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Savanna Bible Church, Savanna with a visitation being held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Reverend Gardner Cronk will officiate. Burial will take place in the Zion Cemetery, rural Savanna. A visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Savanna Bible Church. Memorials may be given to the Savanna Bible Church in Avis’s memory.

Benjamin Diephuis

Benjamin “Ben” Diephuis, 93, of Fulton, Illinois passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Fulton Chapel – Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the funeral service Wednesday – June 1, 2011 at the Fulton Chapel – Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
