Jeanette A. Smith

Jeanette A. Smith, 70, of Thomson, Illinois, died Monday, September 12, 2011 at her home.

Services will be 11:00am, Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Following the services the body will be cremated.

Jeanette Alfreda Schroeder was born on October 20, 1940 in Bellevue, Iowa, the daughter of John and Louise (Milder) Schroeder. She married Gerald Smith on September 8, 1978 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.

Jeanette worked at the Clinton Garment Factory. She was also a beautician in Clinton and Aurora, Colorado. She was employed with International Paper for over 20 years retiring on October 15, 2000.

Jeanette enjoyed crafts, fishing, and watching the birds in her backyard. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Jeanette is survived by her husband: Gerry; daughters: Cindy (Jim) Assenmacher of Clinton, Kristi (Kevin) Gustafson of Moline, Illinois, Jodi (KC) French of Thomson, Illinois, and son: Eric (Tiffani) Smith of Belleville, Illinois; grandchildren: Matthew and Jamie Assenmacher, Haley Gustafson, Cody, Tyler, and KaCee Cierra French, and Jonner Smith; eight sisters: Laura Turner, Wilamena Meyer, Vera Migawa, Maleta Bott, Alberta Mommsen, Maxine Kuehl, Loretta Sullivan all of Clinton, Clara Hall of Bullhead City, Arizona; one brother: William Schroeder of Clinton; three sister-in-laws: Audry Schroeder of Camanche, Mary Schroeder of Austin, Minnesota and Grace Schroeder of Marengo, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: John Jr., Edward, Hiney, and Leroy Schroeder; and one grandson: Kye Smith.

Raymond Frank Knapp

Raymond Frank Knapp, age 84, of rural Mt. Carroll died at home Wednesday, September 7, 2011.Visitation will be held 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home Mt. Carroll. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 at the funeral home with Reverend James Brown officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Raymond was born February 11, 1927 the son of Frank Wallace and Frieda Barbara (Helmich) Knapp in Derinda Center, Illinois. He joined the United States Navy during World War II. On May 1, 1955, Raymond married Frances Bork in the Massbach Lutheran Church. He worked at the Savanna Army Depot; spent time working construction for different contractors; worked for J.I. Case Company in Rockford, Illinois, hauled milk for the Chadwick Cheese Factory and worked in their Whey Department. Raymond also worked twenty years for Centel Telephone Company as a Lineman. Raymond’s true passion was farming. Raymond was a former member of the Mt. Carroll American Legion Post.

Family meant everything to Raymond, whether fishing with grandchildren or great grandchildren, teaching them different things or just enjoying their company. He loved taking care of his rabbits, his dogs, fishing, watching tractor pulls or demo derbies. Another great past-time was watching boats on the Mississippi River.

Raymond will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Frances; a daughter, Sandy Allen (Keith Brinkmeier), grandchildren, Diane (Brian) Randecker of Stockton, Marty Knapp of Savanna and Amber Knapp of Tacoma, Washington, Matthew and Ashley Knapp of Peru, Illinois; great grandchildren Courtney, Brittany, Alyssa, Jon Randecker and Tessa Knapp. Raymond was preceded in death by both parents and his son, Marty.

George P. Babcock

George P. “Bill” Babcock, 83, of Sterling (formerly of Earlville), passed away September 13, 2011, at Ogle County Serenity Home, Oregon.

Bill was a veteran of the US Army and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He owned his own insurance agency in Earlville IL, for more than 30 years. But his true passion in life was his children to whom he devoted his entire life. Bill was born, July 14, 1928 in Wiggins, Mississippi, the son of Phil and Marguerite (Horne) Babcock.

Survivors include: daughters Jennifer Gaughan of Lake Carroll, Jeanette (Doug) Linker of Lanark, Lorali (Dan) Heintzelman of Dixon, Rachel (Jim) DuBois of Morrison; sons Chad (Liz) Babcock of Tomah, Wisconsin, Phillip Babcock of San Francisco, California; sisters Ann Norton formerly of Earlville, Kaye Mims of Mobile, Alabama; 8 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren; special niece Teresa Norton.

He was preceded in death by son-in-law Brian Gaughan.

A gathering of family and friends will be September 25, Sunday, 11:00-2:00 at the Earl Township Bldg, 1506 E. U.S. 34, Earlville, IL 60518

A memorial has been established to Ogle County Hospice, Serenity Home, PO Box 462, Oregon, IL 61061

Edward J. Flynn

Edward J. Flynn, 86, of Hanover, Illinois, died Sunday, September 18, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Law – Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover.
