A beautiful Wednesday afternoon saw Morrison’s Fillies take on the Milledgeville Lady Missiles in Milledgeville. It turned out to be a thrilling game as the Lady Missiles held on for the 1-0 victory in nine innings.

In a pitcher’s duel from the start, Morrison’s Danielle Stralow battled Milledgeville’s Emily Bush as zero after zero went onto the scoreboard. Not many hitters reached base as some stellar defense was played on both sides also. When base runners did manage to get on, the defenses for both teams took over to snuff out any scoring threats.

The Lady Missiles were finally able to break through in the bottom of the ninth inning as Alexis DawTyne reached first on a base hit. She promptly stole second base and advanced to third when the throw got past the second baseman and sailed into centerfield. Courtney Swalve then ended the marathon game with a single that scored DawTyne with the game-winning run.

Both starting pitchers went the distance, with Bush taking the victory, giving up six hits while striking out eight Fillie batters. Stralow was equally impressive, also giving up six hits while striking out four Lady Missile batters.
