By late summer, 1848, the “Minnehaha” arrived at St. Louis with its oddly mixed crew. The Great Fire destroyed the ark that had carried those agents in their preparation of another moving picture panorama but by that time the artist, Henry Lewis, had moved on to Cincinnati where a studio had been leased in which to paint the miles of canvas with images of the Mississippi Valley.

Bernice H. Kehl

Bernice H. Kehl, age 80, of Mount Carroll, Illinois, went Home to be with her Lord, Monday, April 12, 2010, at FHN Hospital in Freeport, Illinois. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the Mount Carroll Church of God. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, also at the Mount Carroll Church of God. A memorial has been established in Bernice’s name.

Violet A. Tippett

Violet A. Tippett, age 94, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2010, also at Law – Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Memorials may be directed to the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society.

Charles R. Geisz

Charles R. Geisz, age 91, of Mount Carroll, Illinois, formerly of rural Chadwick, Illinois, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at the CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Mount Carroll, with Rev. Philip Bigelow officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, at the Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Mount Carroll.
