Missiles Over Galena In Six Innings

In a game shortened to six innings because of the ten run mercy rule, Missile pitcher Keali Engelkens threw a perfect game as M’ville/Polo downed Galena 10-0. Keali sruck out fourteen Pirate hitters and was added at the plate by Katelyn Grobe’s three runs batted in and teammate Taylor Kent knocking in a pair of runs.

The victory improves the Missiles mark to 18-2 overall for the season.

Dakota Rolls Over West Carroll

The Indians put fourteen runs on the scoreboard and were aided by seven West Carroll errors as they beat the Thunder 14-4. Sam Derr took the pitching win for Dakota, giving up ten hits and one walk while striking out two West Carroll batters. Kim Durward took the loss for the Thunder, going only an inning and a third before being replaced by Morgan Smiley. Kim gave up nine runs on six hits, walking four and striking out one. Morgan pitched four and two thirds innings, giving up five runs and walking one while striking out two Dakota hitters.

Thunder coach Don Mathey commented, “We actually hit the ball well tonight but nobody wanted to make a play on defense. When you give up thirteen hits, seven errors and five walks it is very tough to win against a good team like Dakota. Actually it’s tough to beat any team with these stats.”

Thunder Clobber Freeport Aquin

The Thunder put five runs on the board in the first inning as cruised to the five inning 11-0 win over Aquin. Morgan Smiley improved her record to 4-8. Pitching a two hitter, she gave up three bases on balls and struck out seven Freeport Aquin hitters.

West Carroll coach Mathey said, “We played a solid all around game with good pitching, defense, hitting and base running.”

M’ville/Polo Falls To Geneseo

The Missiles led 2-1 after four innings, but Geneseo rallied with five runs in the last three innings to take the 6-2 win. Kat Lenz had a double and a homerun for Geneseo with three runs batted in. Katelyn Grobe had a triple for the Missiles.

Pitcher Keali Engelkens took the loss for M’ville/Polo, going seven innings and giving up six runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out seven Geneseo hitters.

Eastland Outlasts Winnebago

The Cougars picked up their seventeenth win of the season downing the Indians 7-5. Bricelynn Myers picked up the pitching win for Eastland going four innings, giving up ten hits and walking two while striking out four. Taylor Ruter was the hitting leader going four for four at the plate with a home run. Teammate Candace Nepean added a triple. Karoline Kniss went two for four and Candace went two for three.

Missiles Blank Durand/Pec

M’ville/Polo puts runs on the scoreboard in every inning, downing Dirand/Pec 10-0. The Missiles Taylor Kent has a single, double and three runs batted in, Emily Bush a home run and two runs batted in and Brandie Geary a single, double and a run batted in.

Keali Engelkens pitched a one hit masterpiece, walking none and fanning eleven hitters. Kori O’Brien took the loss for Durand/Pec.

Thunder Put Up Fourteen

West Carroll put nine runs up in the first four innings to come away with the 14-6 victory over Pearl City. West Carroll was aided by ten Pearl City errors. Kim Durward picked up the win for the Thunder, walking four and striking out four hitters.

Gwen Scott took the loss for Pearl City, giving up ten hits and walking one while striking out one. Kaiti Mathey had a triple for West Caroll.

Thunder coach Mathey said, “We took advantage of a lot of Pearl City mistakes. They basically made more mistakes than we did as we didn’t play that great a game. Too many routine fielding errors.”

Broncos Edge Thunder

Despite being down 5-0 after an inning and a half, West Carroll battled back to tie the score and take a 6-5 lead into the fifth before falling to Orangeville 9-8. The Broncos put two runs up in the fifth and two more in the sixth to eke out the narrow margin of victory. Pitcher Hannah Wilson picked up the win for the Broncos going two and two thirds innings on the mound. Morgan Smiley took the loss for West Carroll going five an two thirds innings. O’ville’s Katie Boals blasted a home run for the Broncos.

Coach Mathey commented, “I thought we really played a great game tonight. We really hit the ball well as a team. We were down five to nothing but battled back against a great team like Orangeville.”

Thunder Slip By Mercer County

In their second game of the day at the Mercer County tourney West Carroll put three runs on the board in the second inning and held off host Mercer County to take the 3-2 victory. WC pitcher Kim Durward improved her record to 12-6, going all seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out three. Molly Conway took the loss for Mercer County giving up three runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five. Tygan Cole went two for three at the plate for West Carroll with a double and teammate Chelsey Sipe added a triple.

Thunder coach Mathey said, “We had a big third inning where the bottom of our batting order came up big when it counted. The hitting was excellent in the forty degree temperature. We really played great defense as well. It was a really great game by both teams.”

ROWVA Edges Thunder

In their third game of the tourney, West Carroll battled back and forth with ROWVA eventually falling 5-4. The Thunder held a 2-1 lead after two innings but the Tigers managed to tie the score in the third. The Thunder came back with a run in the fifth and ROWVA put up a pair. Both teams scored a single run in the sixth to make the final outcome. Morgan Smiley took the pitching loss for the Thunder.

Coach Mathey said, “This was another really good softball game. We are really starting to come together as a team it looks like. Hopefully we can keep it going right into the regional and maybe surprise some teams.”

Cougars Slip By Stockton

Eastland put three runs on the board in the first two innings and held on to slip past the Blackhawks 3-2. Marissa Harris picked up the pitching win for Eastland giving up three hits and walking two while fanning fourteen Stockton hitters. With the win the Cougars improved their overall record to 16-7, 12-1 in the NUIC.

Le-Win Blasts Thunder

The Panthers put runs on the board in every inning but the first and sixth cruising to the easy twelve to three victory. The Cardinals blasted four home runs and put up multiple runs in four consecutive frames. Matt LaShelle took the pitching loss for West Carroll. Joey Sullivan had a single, home run, run scored and run batted in for the Thunder.

Thunder coach Kamper said, “Lena’s four home runs really fueled their offense. We were just unable to match that much offensive output. We must build off the things we did right and focus on cleaning up the things we aren’t doing well this week during practice and we will bounce back.”

West Carroll Earns A Split At Morrison Tourney

On a cold blustery day in Morrison the Thunder played a first game slugfest at the Mustang tourney. The Thunder jumped out to a 7-1 lead on River Ridge after two innings. But, the Wildcats exploded for fifteen runs from the fourth through the seventh innings to come away with the 17-13 win. The two teams combined for thirty hits and made a combined eleven errors. The Thunders Matt LaShelle took the pitching loss for West Carroll.

In game two the Thunder again jumped out to an early lead and held on to beat Orangeville 8-2. West Carroll led six to nothing after two innings and put up single runs in the fourth and sixth to come away with the victory. Adam Ferguson took the win on the mound for West Carroll.
