Morrison Junior Tackle Opens New Field

On Saturday, August 7, 2010, the Morrison Junior Tackle Football teams opened their seasons and new field with a live scrimmage of play. Head coaches of the Junior Tackle Football program include

8th grade: Jeremy Shoup

7th grade: Corey Johnson

6th grade: Dalbert Wiebenga

5th grade: Rick O’Shea.

Rick O’Shea, 5th grade Junior Tackle Coach, said, “It will be nice to play here and have the opportunity to play under the lights. Today was a productive day, and it was nice just to get out in front of the community and have them support the teams.”

In the first game of the day the 5th grade faced a pretty stout 6th grade team and came up just short, losing the scrimmage 18-6. The 6th grade team was lead by Ethan Fischbach, number 34, who scored three touchdowns and had an interception.

“This was awesome; it’s a great field! I hope to win every game. We have a great team!” said the elated Fischbach.

In the second game, it was a gritty 8th grade team that looked to outdo the eager 7th grade team. The 8th grade came out on top, beating the 7th grade 22-0.

He said about the win, “The field was nice and gave us good traction. The team looked good, and the line blocked very well for us.”

The 8th graders did look good, as 8th grader Austin Shoup said, “The coaches were happy with the way we played, and they have seen a great improvement in us since last year.”

During the intermission between games, the Football Field and scoreboard were dedicated to the Junior Tackle Football teams and the Community of Morrison, by Junior Tackle Board President Rick O’Shea. Present for the Dedication were City of Morrison Council members Bob Snodgrass, Barb Bees, and James Blakemore, who accepted the scoreboard on behalf of the City.
